Freestyle mixture

As the year is drawing to a close, I felt an urgent need to list down all the things I should get done before then. It’s nice to start a new year on a fresh note without a whole lot of pending items. I sat down and made a list.

Freestyle mixture
  1. I had 20 books that I hadn’t read. I made a promise to not buy anything before I finished reading all ofthem. So I had to finish reading 20 books in 20 days. I decided to take on thechallenge. It’s a minor detail that I struck out a couple of books from thelist because they seemed like bad books.
  2. Get all my salwar materials stitched. I confidently included this item because already gave them all to the tailor last week. While making a list, it is always a good idea to include an item or two that you have already done something about. You’ll have something to tick off at the end.

4.  Every other item on the list has to do with decluttering and cleaning some part of the house – clothes cupboards, toy cupboard, poojai area, work desks…

While I was at it, I also figured,

5. I’d lose 3 kilos and

6. Finish the short story I started way back

No harm in aiming big 🙂 I hope I’ve given you enough tips on how to make an optimal list. What are on your list to wrap up before the new year?

This recipe is a freestyle recipe to make any kind of mixture that you fancy. It is a low calorie mixture because there is no deep-frying involved. Moreover, the ingredients are nutritious and super easy to prepare. I’ve added black channa and double beans to my mixture. You can add in any other dried beans of your preference too. I added poha for body. You may add in pori (puffed rice). You could add chopped badam or walnuts in place of cashews for added taste and health. As you can see, this mixture can be anything you want it to be. What I have here is a framework. Make your own wholesome, delicious mixture.

Instructions
  1. Pressure cook the soaked black channa and double beans together until cooked through – about 15 minutes. Drain the liquid and run the pressure cooked beans and channa under cold water. Drain and set aside.
  2. To a large thick bottomed kadai or pan, add 2 tsp oil and heat. When the oil turns hot, add cashews and fry till light golden. Remove the fried cashews to a plate. Add the poha to the kadai and fry on low heat until toasted and crispy. Keep stirring from time to time. Remove the fried poha to the same plate. Add the cooked channa and double beans to the same pan. Add 1 tsp of oil and the spice powders and salt. Mix everything together and allow to get toasted. Keep stirring for 3-4 minutes. Keep the heat low. When the channa and double beans are dry, switch off and allow to cool completely.
  3. Toss the bread cubes in 2 tsp of oil and spread on a tawa and toast until crisp all over. Turn over halfway between to ensure the cubes are evenly toasted all over. Set aside and let cool completely.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the fried cashews, toasted bread slices, poha, spiced and fried channa and double beans. Toss until everything is nicely combined. Dig in. Enjoy!
